EYEZ on ICE – Program Delivery & Resource Development

Client: Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC)

Overview:

SIS was engaged by QAIHC to deliver culturally safe, community-informed training to raise awareness around methamphetamine use and reduce associated stigma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Deliverables:

  • Delivered EYEZ on ICE training workshops in Cairns and on Thursday Island, engaging frontline staff, health workers, and community leaders

  • Facilitated a 3-hour evidence-informed session, integrating cultural context, harm reduction strategies, and community voice

  • Developed a practical resource package including facilitator notes, visual aids, participant materials, and support tools

  • Provided strategic advice to inform future delivery and statewide program scalability

Outcomes:

  • Strengthened local capacity to respond to methamphetamine-related harm with culturally relevant tools

  • Positive participant feedback and strong engagement from both mainland and remote community stakeholders

  • A transferable model that supports broader implementation across the state

Jabalbina Community Recovery Education Workshop 

Client: Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation

Overview:

SIS was engaged to support community recovery planning with Jabalbina following the impact of severe weather events and the ongoing strain of environmental and social disruptions on Eastern Yalanji Country. The project centred around restoring connection, strengthening local leadership, and creating space for culturally grounded recovery strategies.

Deliverables:

  • Developed a tailored session plan for community engagement and healing activities, designed to meet the cultural and emotional needs of impacted Yalanji families

  • Facilitated community-led sessions across Mossman and Wujal Wujal, incorporating Yarning Circles, goal setting, cultural reflection, and resilience-building exercises

  • Integrated Traditional Owner-led facilitation approaches, ensuring that the pace and tone of delivery aligned with local cultural protocols

  • Provided strategic advice to Jabalbina on next steps, including local service coordination, funding considerations, and community voice in longer-term planning

  • Delivered a Community Recovery Report summarising key insights, themes, and recommendations for ongoing support and resourcing

Outcomes:

  • Helped Jabalbina centre cultural leadership in recovery efforts

  • Created space for collective reflection, goal setting, and re-energising community priorities

  • Laid a foundation for ongoing, culturally safe recovery engagement with external agencies
